First Post - Why a Blog?

This blog is an experiment.  When I told my best friend David that I wanted to start writing a blog, he said "You don't really seem like the kind of person who would have a blog."  I don't need the rest of the world to know every one of my thoughts, and I don't think that what I have to say is so important that it must be available for everyone to read.

This space is for me to document, share, and think.  I don't claim to have answers to anything. But I do believe that writing is thinking and that by maintaining this blog I will keep myself writing and thinking about issues that pop up in my own life.

A few disclaimers:
1) I'm not a toooottall introvert.  But I often find myself struggling to speak up, and finding it less natural to make friends.

2) I often have controversial views - overall pretty liberal, but I like to question even liberal positions, so if I offend you or you think that something I write is wrong in any way please feel free to contact me.  I believe the best way to learn and find respect is through communication.  I was each of my posts to be read (if it's read at all) as an invitation for more conversation, questioning, and progress.

3) I'm also hoping that this blog will help me keep up my writing skills and teach me a little about multi-media forms of writing and communication.  I'm hoping to update this blog to a more advanced platform soon so that I can have more control.  So if you have any suggestions (about improving my writing or template or anything) let me know.  And I'll keep everyone up to date on if this blog moves).

Thanks!
Emily Eisner
